How To Steal Stanley Tucci's Outdoor Kitchen Countertop Look
Stanley Tucci often posts about the dishes and cocktails he makes from his home, and these posts also show off his elegant taste in countertops.
One Instagram post shows Tucci making a Pimm’s cocktail in his modern yet rustic outdoor patio kitchen, with a distinctive gray countertop that appears to be soapstone.
Soapstone, or Steatite, is a natural and earthy metamorphic rock consisting mainly of talc, making for a soft, durable surface that is highly resilient against heat and stains.
The material is ideal for surfaces such as kitchen countertops and sinks, but it comes with a hefty price, with selections ranging between $70 to $120 per square foot.
It comes in only a limited range of colors, like blue, black, and gray, but with its rich, darkened hue, it pairs well with lighter surfaces such as stone or wood.
While the soapstone countertop is resistant to burns and stains, it can still be scratched, so Tucci may occasionally coat it with mineral oil to prevent the color from fading.
Tucci’s countertop — along with the surrounding greenery and the patio kitchen’s wood slat back wall and cabinetry paneling — creates the feeling of an oasis in an urban setting.
