Keep Your Kitchen Accessories In Great Shape With This Wood Butter DIY
Wooden kitchen items, like cutting boards, utensils, serving bowls, and rolling pins, need routine maintenance with wood butter to keep from drying out, which leads to damage.
Creating your own wood butter will save money and ensure only a natural solution is being applied. Plus, this DIY needs only two ingredients and takes less than an hour to make.
You'll need at least 4 ounces of dry beeswax and at least 16 ounces of mineral oil. A few drops of vitamin E oil can also be added to prolong shelf life.
In addition to the two ingredients, collect two saucepans, a 2-quart measuring cup, funnel, and towel. Start by filling one of the saucepans with water and bringing it to a boil.
Add the beeswax into the measuring cup, and place it into the boiling water. While waiting for the beeswax to melt, warm up the mineral oil in the same way in the other saucepan.
With the beeswax melted and the oil warmed, remove both from the stove and gently mix the oil into the wax. Use the funnel to pour the mixture into a jar for storing.
Once the wood butter is cooled, it is ready to use on any dry and clean wooden kitchen accessories. Apply it with a towel or your hand, and let it sit overnight before wiping.
